After 30 years in photography, Maurice
Henri looks ahead to the next 30

Maurice Henri is in a reflective
mood. “Thirty years is a
significant time to be in
photography, but it was a labour
of love, because I converted what
was my hobby, into a profession,”
he recalls. “I was pushing 30 at
the time and everyone was telling
me ‘You can’t make a living at
this’ and all of a sudden I’m thirty
years in.”
Thirty years often means
retirement. Not so for Henri.
For him, the thirty years which
began in studio and commercial
photography were opportunities to
hone his skills.
“To get good at something you
have to work at it every day,” he
says, “but fine art photography
and my humanitarian work,
combining art with therapeutic
healing, those are my passions.
I’ll never give up Cameras for
Healing, that’s an absolute that
will stay with me until I can’t
work anymore. It’s nourishing and
rewarding to help others through
something you love, which for me
is photograph
