TAKING PRIDE
in our ROOTS
Margaret Patricia Eaton
Terry Steeves, who’s
chaired the Albert County
Exhibition for 14 years, is
passionate about the 106
year-old event. “It brings
the community together
and brings people back to
their roots,” he says, citing
people returning from
across Canada and the US.
It’s also bringing
generations together and
keeping traditions alive.
“How many younger people
know how to make a quilt
or knit a pair of socks or
plant their own vegetable
garden or understand
the importance of bee
pollination for our food
supply?” he asks.
The exhibition he maintains
is the last link with a
rapidly disappearing
way of life. “If we lose our
sense of where we came
from, we’ll have nothing left.
This is our heritage.”
