Santa Fe Spotlight
Passports Give Access To Santa Fe’s
Margarita Trail
By Prime Time Staff
T
he list of things that can be
considered “Santa Fe style,”
such as clothing, furniture,
jewelry and art, just got a little
longer. Add margaritas to the list.
On Cinco de Mayo, Tourism
Santa Fe begins selling “passports”
for what it is calling its Margarita
Trail, where participating restaurants
and pubs each make their unique
margaritas for anyone carrying a
“trail passport.” The passport allows
the holder to collect stamps for each
place they visit and sip, or devour,
their margaritas. The passport is
good forever, or until a restaurant no
longer participates.
As most New Mexicans know,
a margarita goes well with just
about any dinner, so the venues on
the trail also showcase some of the
best cuisine in Santa Fe. This year,
there are 31 margaritas on the trail,
and all are made with 100 percent
agave tequila.
Here’s how to get on the Margarita
Trail and collect the passport stamps:
1. Purchase your Santa Fe
Margarita Trail Passport for $3 at
any Tourism Santa Fe Visitor Center
or Margarita Trail-participating
restaurant. (See information box).
2. Along the Margarita Trail,
present your passport for a $1
discount on the special margarita
offered by the participating
restaurant.
3. Ask your bartender or server
to stamp and date your passport
before you leave. You can earn a
maximum of two stamps per day.
4. Collect stamps from different
stops along the Margarita Trail.
• After collecting five, you’ll
earn a commemorative T-shirt to
proudly display your Santa Fe
margarita passion.
• With 20 stamps, you
will receive a signed copy of
The Great Margarita Book.
• Complete all stops on the trail,
and receive your own Margarita
Bartender Kit.
5. T- shirt and other prizes may
only be redeemed at the Downtown
Santa Fe Visitor Center located in the
Plaza Galeria, 66 E. San Francisco
Street, Suite 3.
6. All passports remain valid for
the life of the Santa Fe Margarita
Trail and are fully transferable.
