Committee Chair Report

2020 was a year unlike any other – it was full of personal and professional challenges and unprecedented demands on teachers and students .
When schools in the United States were forced to shut down due to
COVID-19 , educational leadership across the country widely differed in how they chose to handle instruction . Some schools closed and teachers began working from home . Other schools remained open , with educators commuting to their classrooms during a pandemic .
Still other teachers tirelessly pivoted between both the in-person and virtual environment . With the constant change of scenery came many new challenges in teaching and learning . At the time of this writing , we have spent
288 days teaching in this way .

In June , ETC helped ACL organize and host their first fully-virtual Institute using Zoom . The conference stretched over four days , offering seven pre-recorded sessions , 27 exhibitors , 34 live sessions , and 16 break sessions .
Out of the 50 volunteers who manned the event , 14 ETC volunteers served as session presiders , tech support , and / or break facilitators . The most-attended session was ETC ’ s sponsored talk on neurodiversity by Program Chair Stephanie Krause , with over 179 attendees .
Over the summer , ETC onboarded a record number of new volunteers . We took on 25 new volunteers ( all trained online ) from across the United
States .

Chances are that you used Zoom this year . ETC sure did - all of our Executive Board Meetings and even ACL Institute were held virtually . Cheers to a company that helped us stay on top of work and in touch with loved ones
throughout 2020 .
