each generously share their talents and time with ETC . I eagerly look forward to an amazing year working alongside them and learning from their expertise .
Here are just some of the other things that ETC leaders and volunteers achieved together in 2022-2023 .
As members of ACL ’ s Board of Governors , we ensured that the needs of elementary and middle school teachers were considered in larger organizational decisions . We continued to sponsor a range of exams and contests , including the National Mythology Exams ( NME : Pegasus and Medusa ), the Exploratory Latin Exam ( ELE ) and the SCRIBO Writing Contest , which captivate students with fascinating mythological tales and foster a deep love for all things classics . We continued to offer and even expand our resources , including our Awards , Curriculum , and ETC Live subscription and video library . We continued with weekly ETC LIVE episodes that brought together our students , teachers , and several amazing speakers , such as Nathalie Roy and George O ’ Connor . Our Awards committee has revised the application cycles for grants , awards , and the ETC Access Fund . This year , our Petrino Award has experienced a surge in applications , reflecting its increasing popularity and impact . Our Curriculum committee has been hard at work supporting our teachers using novellas in the classroom . Outside of the ACL Institute , we expanded our programming for both teachers and students . In the Fall , we offered a Fall Forum for teachers with speakers Nathalie Roy , Keith Toda , and Jessie Craft . In the Spring , our student symposium previewed a mini JCL experience . Students met Jessie Craft online for a tour of Zeus ’ s Temple and competed asynchronously in a variety of academic , artistic , and creative events centered on the theme of “ Ancient Wonders .” At ACL Institute , ETC made significant strides in expanding our presence - offering more virtual and in person sessions . This year featured the first-ever ETC Sponsored Session led by a Calliope award winner . Zoe Fox , the recipient of this year ’ s teaching award , presented “ The Power of Project-Based Learning Learning in the Elementary and Middle School Latin Classroom .” Our “ Catching them in the Middle ” Pre-Institute Session and Roundtable Discussion sessions were both well attended . Our Open Meeting summarized the last year ’ s initiatives and for the first time looked forward to 23-24 programming . Under our new Program Chair Katy Reddick , we offered some new raffle prizes and a new Goosechase game that allowed both virtual and in person attendees to join in the fun together . In terms of publicity , ETC continued to offer a strong social media presence on Twitter , Facebook , Instagram and our ACL Communities . Our quarterly PRIMA publication aims to highlight student voices alongside feature articles from teachers , and updates from ETC Executive Committee members . PRIMA introduced a new standing feature called " Curation Corner ," which offers a hub of lesson plans and assessments , and soon we will celebrate the outstanding achievements of students across our exams with our perfect papers feature .
