CREATING STATIONS WITH BUTTONS
Shirley L . Hall
Are you looking for a new way of practicing content with your students ? Interactive recordable buttons are the way to go .
As I was scrolling through Facebook , I came across a video where a dog was pushing buttons to hear their master ’ s voice . That is when I had my “ aha ” moment ! I thought it was an interesting concept to try with my students . I would get a set of recordable buttons to see if students would work well practicing Latin with these buttons .
I began my murus verborum with eight recordable buttons from Amazon , with each button recording up to 30 seconds of audio . I recorded individual vocabulary words from our current unit . They were a hit – the students love to press buttons and they could hear the pronunciation of the word as many times as they needed .
Roma poeta habeo
bonus vir ē , ex iubeō felix
After the success of the “ word ” buttons , I introduced buttons to record Latin sentences . I purchased a dry erase board / tile board from the hardware store and velcroed 16 recordable buttons .
I loved the idea of letting students listen to vocabulary terms in isolation because students get to work with vocabulary as needed . These buttons also became useful for incorporating skills beyond memorization . Read on to discover activities and ideas for using these buttons in your own classroom !
