TELL ME A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF . WHEN DID YOU FIRST LEARN ABOUT CLASSICS ?
To tell you a little bit about myself , I have to dive into my background as well . My parents have two completely different outlooks on classics , especially mythology . While my dad had extremely bad memories of classics and didn ’ t really like listening to it , he still encouraged me to learn . My mom encouraged me at an early age because of her own enjoyment .
When I was a young kid , my mom bought a mythology book from a no-name company for herself , and she handed it over to me . I voraciously read the book and wanted more , buying and obsessing over Percy Jackson and the Olympians afterwards . Later , I went to the Carlos Museum and fell more in love with classics . That ’ s my beginning .
Studying classics was an entirely new experience for me . With mythology , it came to me naturally , but when I had to study , looking at the NLVE , NRCE , and others , it was more difficult . However , I liked studying classics because it all made sense . It helped me make sense of the world around me . The architecture , the literature , the vocabulary — when I studied classics , I could pinpoint the basics of my environment and break it down into chunks of history .

HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE PETRINO AWARD ?

I originally heard about the Petrino award from my Latin teacher , Dr . Saunders , during a field day of sorts at my school . At first , I wasn ’ t exactly sure what it was because I was in a rush , but I thought it sounded interesting . So , as soon as the field day ended , I met up with my teacher and learned more about the Petrino award . When I got home that day , I made a beeline for my computer and searched it up , absorbing as much information about it as possible .
