The Excellence Through Classics Committee is pleased to announce that the Medusa Mythology Exam is joining our National Mythology Exams. Cheryl Cheatham is now the
National Mythology
Exams Coordinator. Michael Posey is chair of the Pegasus Mythology Exam, which will serve grades three through eight. The Medusa Mythology Exam will serve students in grades nine through twelve who want to show off their knowledge of mythology. The Medusa Mythology Exam is chaired by Megan Felder and Chiayi (Sherry) Lee.
Founded in 1998, the Medusa Mythology Exam allows students worldwide the opportunity to demonstrate their enthusiasm and excellence in the field of Greco-Roman mythology and to be recognized accordingly; to encourage students pursuing the study of mythology; and to enable students to better understand the contemporary world through a richer knowledge of the ancient world.
While the exam content varies each year in accordance with a changing theme, it consistently showcases a broad range of ancient Greco-Roman mythological themes and characters that meaningfully reflect the cultural narratives of classical antiquity, including voices that have historically been underrepresented (e.g., the stories of mythological women).
The Medusa Mythology Exam consists of forty multiple choice questions, including at least one visual question. This year’s exam will focus specifically on the intersection of transformation and Greek and Roman mythological monsters. The exam
committee is hard at work on the syllabus, bibliography, and questions. We at ETC are thrilled to welcome the Medusa Mythology Exam to our family of exams.
