YEAR IN REVIEW Deanne Horner D’Emilio, JD began her tenure as Gwynedd Mercy University’s sixth president on August 1, 2017. First-year and transfer students participated in GMercyU’s Annual Day of Service to kick off the 2017-2018 school year. Program Director of GMercyU’s Bachelor of Social Work Program Wade Luquet, PhD spent a portion of his summer on a lecture tour, presenting to clinical mental health professionals in six cities. Members of the campus community witnessed history by watching the solar eclipse on August 21, 2017. 2 0 1 7 - 2 0 1 8 GMercyU hosted an accounting and finance career fair for students and alumni from eight area colleges and universities. GMercyU honored six alumni at the annual Distinguished Alumni Awards. Philip D. Amoa, Esq. ‘07; Shaun M. Dougherty, EdD ‘05; Melissa A. Fitzpatrick, RN, MSN ‘79; Corey A. Lord ‘04; and Tim Smyth ‘08 received the Distinguished Alumni Award while Thomas P. Quinn ‘05 received the Anne Fitzpatrick Murray Alumni Award for Service. GMercyU alumna Jennifer Lorine, DO ‘06 was named to 2017 Pennsylvania’s Top Physicians under 40 list by the Pennsylvania Medical Society. GMercyU hosted its first Woke Week, a week-long event that focused on various social justice issues in light of the current political climate and in line with the Critical Concerns of Mercy. The entire GMercyU Community gathered for one of GMercyU’s biggest traditions - Griffin Madness. GMercyU’s Griffin Color Run won Community Service Event of the Year by The Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities. 2 PRESIDENT’S REPORT 100% of first-time, full-time students received financial aid for the 2017-2018 academic year.
