The Voices of Gwynedd celebrated their
25th anniversary during the 2017-2018
academic year, culminating with a trip to
Ireland in Summer 2018.
Gwynedd Mercy University, along with
six current Division III institutions,
received approval from the NCAA to
form the new Atlantic East Conference
(AEC) effective September 1, 2018,
and to begin competition in the 2018-19
season.
GMercyU Field Hockey won the 2017
Colonial States Athletic Conference
Championship with a 3-0 victory over
Cabrini University.
The School of Graduate and Professional
Studies teamed up with GMercyU EdD
graduate Evelyn Nunez ‘17 to support
families devastated by Hurricane Maria.
Business students participated in a
nationwide Intercollegiate Investment
Competition, which was co-hosted by
Fordham University and Pace University.
GMercyU’s field hockey team was named
a recipient of the 2017 Colonial States
Athletic Conference Team Academic
Awards, which is given annually to each
sports team whose student-athletes
achieve the highest combined grade point
average.
The GMercyU community donated
Thanksgiving baskets to families served
by Mercy Neighborhood Ministries and
the Gesu School Outreach Program in
North Philadelphia.
More than 500 people from around
the region took part in the 11th
annual Autism Conference. The all-
day conference, hosted by GMercyU’s
Autism Institute, featured tracks geared
towards specific audiences, including
educators, healthcare professionals, and
law enforcement.
GMercyU ranked in
the Top 15% for salary
after attending among
four-year schools in
Pennsylvania in 2017,
according to College
Scorecard.
GMercyU presented a talk titled “Civil
Discourse: Examining ‘Post-Racial’
America,” which explored the feasibility
of a post-racial society, as well as the
role that civil discourse will play in
achieving that ideal.
GMercyU’s women’s soccer team
traveled across the pond to London over
spring break for a bit of culture and some
friendly competition.
Joshua Stern, MS began his tenure as
Vice President for Student Services and
Dean of Students in January 2018.
Mary Van Brunt, PhD began her tenure
as Vice President for Academic Affairs
on July 1, 2018.
The Special Education Club hosted the
6th Annual Alex Valeno Exceptional
Persons 5K. The annual event is in honor
of Alex Valeno, a former GMercyU
special education student who died
in 2013 from a pre-existing heart
condition.
