National monitoring of child and forced labour of the cotton harvest in 2016 • Recruitment of cotton pickers in Uzbekistan this season had been done on voluntarily basis via relevant employment contracts and letters volunteering to harvest cotton. • The people involved to cotton picking had kept their salary at a permanent work place and they get also paid for cotton they collect. According to the Governmental Decree the purchase price for the collection of one kilogram of cotton in Uzbekistan in 2016 increased by 9.6% compared to 2015. • The voluntary cotton pickers had been ensured with safe transportation to and from the cotton field and secure place of residence. • Decent working and resting conditions had been created for cotton pickers, including hot meals, clean drinking water, financial and moral encouragement, fire safety and the relevant hygienic conditions. • In September 2016 the Ministry of Labour of Uzbekistan through the National Mass Media has made an official statement about the prohibition of use of child and forced labour during the cotton harvest
