Science

The power of multimedia makes iMovie
and Explain Everything two very popular
tools used at Fairmont.
In this activity students are taking a look
at how mutation and sexual reproduction
lead to genetic variation in a population.
Students will be able to recognize that a cell has a defined life
cycle and that this cycle is composed of specific stages. Genetic
variation provides advantages to populations. Students construct
models of meiosis.
Students studied meiosis on Bb then crafted a model of meiosis,
filmed or took stills and compiled a movie. They added titles or
voice overs to explain the processes in each phase of meiosis.
Students presented their movies to their classmates.
Social Science
with Roderick Duvall
Mr. Duvall loves history but
he doesn't want to be the
sage on the stage lecturing
about the past. He wants
students investigating and
exploring topics.
While studying the 1920s
each student chose a
reformer or muckraker, or a
reform amendment , or a
reform movement etc. but ultimately it was
significant because it was their choice.
Working in groups students created an Explain
Everything. They were assigned specific jobs such as
a scribe, presenter....etc.
Students chose a minimum of three pictures and then
chose at least two facts that we did not already
know . Mr. Duvall highlighted the importance of
using images to explain their ideas.
