English
with Cameron Bishop
Mr. Bishop brought the narrative
style of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales.
They will gain an understanding of
the historical, cultural and
intellectual contexts that shape the
writing of literature of the middle
ages, and learn to interpret
medieval literary texts in the light
of these contexts. They will
encounter the concerns and
ideologies of the medieval period and identify parallels with
shared themes in modern society. Students used the iPad to
create iMovie-based music videos where the Knight's Tale
was paraphrased and put to verse in a modern context.
Students outlined the original story, found or created original
music that fit the theme, and made lyrics that were true to
the original tale. They then filmed the music video and
added the lyrics as subtitles. The act of creating lyricism from
prose forced students to really dig down to the essential
elements of the Tale and display understanding that not only
helped them learn, but also enriched the viewers.
Math
with Stephen Whitlock
Mr. Whitlock used technology to
enhance his curriculum as students solved
trigonometric equations and sketched
various functions.
Students logged onto the
www.infuselearning.com website and
logged in with their name and room id
that I provided. Then students responded
to various questions by drawing the
answer on their iPad and submitting them. I was then able to
display their responses and we were able to discuss them as a
class.
This type of activity would have not been possible without the
use of infuselearning.com and the iPad. Students are now able to
submit their responses electronically for my review and also to
display to the class for discussion. It allows them to analyze the
differences between their answers and review the material in a fun
and engaging way.
