Glossy Privet
Ligustrum lucidum
Multiple species exist and are readily available in the nursery trade . It is known to aggressively invade woodlands and other natural areas and is very difficult to control .
Blackhaw ( Viburnum prunifolium ) – shrub or small tree 12-15 ft tall , sometimes growing to 30 ft ; white flower clusters followed by yellow berries turning blue-black ; attractive , dark-green foliage becomes reddish-purple in fall .
Texas mountain-laurel ( Sophora secundiflora ) – usually a multi-trunked shrub or small tree ; grows up to 30 ft tall ; dense , dark green evergreen foliage ; fragrant and showy bluish-lavender flowers in drooping clusters .

This plant is one of the most invasive , hard to control woody plants in the world . It spreads around rivers , streams and once it establishes it quickly chokes out desirable vegetation . It can draw out water from underwater aquifer - as much as 200 gallons per plant per day .
Unfortunately there are no native plants that are alternatives .
