Class Spotlight

Journalism

Journalism is the second part of the English elective course that also includes creative writing . Creative writing is taught in the first two marking periods , while journalism is taught in the last two by a variety of English teachers . The course begins by introducing the journalism code of ethics to help students understand the principles of responsible reporting . Bias is another important factor in writing , and students are taught how to identify it in articles and within their own work . Through research and presentations , students learn to recognize different types of bias and fact-check stories with reliable news sources . Later in the course , students write their own news stories about events happening within the school , such as fashion shows , sports , and club events .

“ l am so happy that I decided to take Journalism and Creative Writing . Not only did it improve my writing skills , but it also taught me how to effectively communicate my ideas and opinions . It allowed me to explore different writing styles and genres , and gave me the opportunity to express myself creatively . This course helped me find my voice as a writer and I am grateful for the experiences and lessons it has given me .”
