PTHS offers a variety of AP classes in various subjects . However , many students feel that taking AP classes are too difficult and too much work . This is not always the case , and there are a huge amount of benefits that students get from taking AP classes . For instance , AP classes offer significant preparation for college . Also , colleges prefer students taking AP classes rather than taking academic and even honors classes . Many colleges prefer to see students choose to take an AP class and get 80 % grade rather than taking an honors or academic class and get a 95 % grade . Additionally , for students who take the AP exam for the class they are taking , which is highly recommended , scoring a 4 or 5 on the exam can help students get out of taking certain college classes that they have already received credit for through taking the AP class and passing the AP exam . College classes can be extremely expensive so this can save a lot of money . Certain colleges have different requirements for what score on the AP exam allows a student to not take a class , but usually a 4 or 5 will allow the student to move on to the next class they need to take . This could potentially lead students to getting out of school earlier which then leads them to getting a job sooner , so this helps save both time and money .
In addition to that , going in with these credits allows freshmen who have taken APs to have better class choices . When choosing classes in college , the priority goes to sports players who need to take specific classes due to their schedule . After that , seniors get to pick their classes , and then juniors , and then sophomores . Freshmen are the last to choose their classes and college freshmen who took AP classes in high school and received credits usually are able to register before other freshmen .
