Forensics

Forensics is a very interesting class that keeps students very engaged . Throughout the year , students learn about the early history of forensics , the science that has contributed to modern day criminal investigation , processing and recording of crime scene , physical evidence , and analytical process and techniques such as fingerprinting , DNA fingerprinting , hair analysis , dental records , chromatography , and analysis of chemical compounds . During the school year , there are two major crime team based investigations . The first one is analysis of bones to determine age , race , gender , and stature . The second one requires students to collect and process physical evidence and identify the perpetrator of the crime . Students in grades 11-12 are able to take this class because it does require knowledge in biology and chemistry . The course offers insight into how investigating work is done by various police departments and other agencies and a profession in the field of forensics provides a number of opportunities for someone looking to work beyond the typical office job .
