admissions senior year COLLEGE APPLICATION TIMELINE Does the thought of all those decisions, applications, and deadlines make your head spin? Don’t panic! Here’s everything you need to know: JULY  D o your research. Visit prospective colleges.  Look up admissions and merit scholarship requirements for the schools you’re considering.  Register for the September ACT/SAT. AUGUST  Finalize your list of colleges.  Get organized. Create a folder for NOVEMBER/DECEMBER MARCH/APRIL  C heck in the with the housing office.  Avoid catching Senioritis! Colleges Some schools with limited space fill up quickly, so send in your deposit early to secure your dorm choice. This may mean sending in deposits to multiple schools if you have not yet decided where you will attend in the fall.  K eep applying to schools and scholarships! JANUARY/FEBRUARY  C heck the medical requirements for your school. Get the required vaccinations. each college to hold documents and forms.  Work on your resumé. Include  Start writing application essays.  Request recommendation letters. Provide a copy of your resumé and a deadline. Follow up, and don’t forget to send thank-you notes to the teachers, coaches, and/or mentors who provide them.  Create an online account for requesting/sending copies of your high school transcript to colleges.  Register for the December ACT/SAT. Make sure to have your scores sent directly to the colleges you’re applying to. MAY  May 1st is decision day! If you haven’t picked a school yet, today is your deadline.  Take AP exams. JUNE  Send your final transcript!  Keep copies of everything. Keep a record of college applications, financial aid papers, and essays. You never know when you may be asked to resend documents, so have them ready! SEPTEMBER academic achievements, extracurric- ulars, community service, and work experience. have been known to revoke accep- tance if your grades fall, so stay on track. WHEN SHOULD I EXPECT TO RECEIVE MY ACCEPTANCE LETTER? For early decision applications, you can expect to hear back sometime around mid-December. For rolling admissions, letters are usually sent out 6-8 weeks after applying. Regular admissions deadlines are typically around the first of the year, and those letters are sent out March through April. adm issi OCTOBER  File your FAFSA. Some schools require it for scholarship consideration, so file even if you don’t think you’ll qualify for financial aid.
