Entry requirements
Registration with the NMC as a first-level nurse or specialist community public health nurse for a minimum of one year prior to application for entry .
Applicants are to be professionally practising in an environment where there is an identified need to regularly prescribe , and be able to demonstrate support from their employer / sponsor , line manager , non-medical prescribing lead and practice supervisor and assessor .

All applicants should be capable of safe and effective practice at a level of proficiency appropriate to the module / programme undertaken and their intended area of prescribing practice in the following areas : clinical health assessment , diagnostics / care management , planning and evaluation of care .

Approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council ( NMC ), meaning the course meets the standards of education , training , conduct and performance required for nurses in the UK .

Prescribing For Nurses : Independent and Supplementary V300 ( Level 6 / 7 ) Qualify as an independent and supplementary nurse prescriber and improve the care you provide for your patients .
Develop your legal , ethical , professional , pharmacology and therapeutics knowledge and skills on topics relevant to pharmacology and therapeutics . Gain a thorough understanding of the scope of your practice and develop the skills to safely prescribe to your patients .
Learn from experts in the University ’ s School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences , and the School of Health and Care Professions . Build your practice in our clinical skills suite with our human patient simulators and our Anatomage virtual dissection table . Get support from experienced clinical supervisors in practice . Successfully complete the course and be eligible to register with the NMC as an independent / supplementary nurse prescriber .
CONTACT TIME
You ’ ll study for around 26 days over the duration of this course and be in timetabled teaching activities such as seminars and simulation for about 9 of the 26 days . The rest of the time you ’ ll do online learning and self-directed study . You ’ ll also complete 12 sessions of supervised practice with your employer , each lasting 7.5 hours .

Learn about the latest legislation , planning and policy , and put it all into practice in professional settings , with real people . Take part in skills days with professional social workers . Practise your skills in realistic domestic and care settings in our Simulation Centre . Undertake two separate work placements – one in your first year and one in your second year , which could be schools , supported living facilities , hospitals or health centres .
NHS Bursary for postgraduate social work students can help with the cost of your fees , your living costs , and includes a contribution towards your placement travel expenses . When you successfully complete the course , you ’ ll be eligible to apply to register as a social worker with the professional regulatory body , Social Work England .

Entry requirements
An upper second-class honours degree in a relevant subject or a degree in an associated discipline . Applicants with a lower classification ( second class ) will be considered on an individual basis , considering relevant experience and academic achievement . Applicants must also have relevant work experience , more than 3 months in voluntary or paid employment in a health , education or social care environment . GCSE Mathematics at grade C / 4 or above . All offers are subject to Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service ( DBS ) clearance and Occupational Health clearance .
