Tell us a little about your professional career.

After finishing my studies, my professional career has always been linked to lighting. I started working for someone else and I worked in many tasks, from promoter to engineering and architecture offices, product manager and commercial director.

My professional career within the area allowed me to contact clients inside and outside Portugal and gave me an overview of the market as a whole. My knowledge grew and my taste for lighting and ambition also.

Although this market is very competitive and there are already many companies in the sector, I understood that there were still some gaps in lighting and there would be space for new companies.

So about 10 years ago, we created Begolux, which has been a passionate and highly motivating challenge.

What motivated and still motivates you to work in the lighting sector?

The lighting industry has always aroused a lot of curiosity and since I started my professional career in this area the motivation has been increasing. Currently, I’m motivated by the growth of my company, the new challenges that are presented to us daily and the knowledge I can impart to each of my employees.

The AIPI Presidency is the latest project I have embraced and in which I am 100%. It’s also a motivating force for me to be part of this project.

Tell us a little about the history of Begolux.

Begolux was created in 2010 as a result of the gaps that I understood existed in lighting in Portugal.

Lighting in general has evolved and at the same time has changed significantly with the emergence of led technology. Begolux has always followed the trends and at the same time was at the forefront of different types of lighting. We have a highly qualified, motivated and design oriented team for the development of lighting solutions. For some years now we have our headquarters in Gondomar, where our lamps are manufactured.

How do you evaluate the national lighting sector?

In Portugal the lighting sector is mainly made up of micro and small companies. We have a small national market, so it’s essential that our companies are progressively directed abroad.

Portuguese companies, although small in size, as mentioned above, have at its command warrior entrepreneurs who are used to fighting in a very competitive market, such as the lighting market.

However, we have to promote and develop associativism more and more, because only together can we meet the new challenges in an increasingly global market. This need to export is something that has already been understood by a significant part of our companies.
