IMPORTS
According to Comtrade, imports from Finland registered a value of 86 billion USD in 2021 (68 billion USD in 2020). The five main groups of imported products were Machinery and Apparatus (22.1%), Mineral Fuels (13.2%), Common Metals (11.6%), Vehicles and Other Transport Material (10.0 %) and Chemicals (8.8%).
According to Comtrade, Finland's top five suppliers in 2021 were Germany (14.5%), Russia (11.7%), Sweden (11.4%), China (9.0 %) and the Netherlands (4.5%). These markets together represented 51.1% of the value of imports.
EXPORTS
According to Comtrade, Finland's exports registered a value of 82 billion USD in 2021 (66 billion USD in 2020). The five main groups of exported products were Machinery and Apparatus (20.5%), Base Metals (15.7%), Cellulose Pulp and Paper (13.5%), Vehicles and Other Transport Material (10 .0%) and Chemical Products (7.7%).
According to Comtrade, Finland's top five customer markets in 2021 were Germany (13.2%), Sweden (10.2%), the USA (6.6%), the Netherlands (6.1%) and Russia (5.4%). These markets together represented 41.5% of the value of exports.
TRADE BALANCE WITH PORTUGAL
According to INE, Finland was the 20th customer of Portuguese exports of goods in 2021, with a share of 0.7% in total, ranking 33rd in terms of imports (0.3%). Over the 2017-2021 period, there was an average annual growth in exports of 20.1% and 5.1% in imports. The trade balance of goods was favorable to our country, having presented a surplus of 202 million euros in 2021.
In the structure of exports, the highlights are Minerals and Ores (62.7%), Common Metals (7.4%), Food Products (4.8%), Textile Materials (4.5%) and Clothing (4.4%). The main groups of imported products were Machinery and Apparatus (24.5%), Common Metals (22.2%), Cellulose Pulp and Paper (15.0%), Chemical Products (12.9%) and Wood and Cork (5.1%).
In 2022, the value of Portugal's exports to Finland was 488 million euros and that of imports from Finland was 300 million euros, which represented a trade surplus for our country of 188 million euros.
