ENTREVISTA / INTERVIEW

NOV. | 21

PL: When designing a piece, what is more important, the functionality or the aesthetics of the product? Is it easy to balance these two premises?

SS: Our intention has always been not to highlight one to the detriment of the other. In fact, both aspects are priorities for Royal Stranger. Our background is architecture and this is reflected in our way of designing and in our logic of the concept of design and aesthetics, combined with comfort and user experience. This working method involves an extensive research process, searching for inspirations and references, trial and error (a process that sometimes takes years), so that the final result represents the maximum coexistence of these two concepts, the design and functionality. In fact, the brand name itself functions as a personification of these same ideas. Royal, for the use of excellent materials, for the workforce with the maximum know-how and for the high quality service: the offer of a differentiating purchasing and comfort experience. Stranger, for the bold way of thinking about the design and creating the different shapes of the pieces, as well as for the choice of bold colors: the difference, marked by such a unique concept and design, which is reflected in the sensorial experience itself, an experience positively “strange”.

PL: How was Royal Stranger born and how does it distinguish itself from the competition?

SS: During our activity in the area of architecture and interior design, we created concepts for brands. This was one of the great aspects that distinguished our studio: every detail was thought out and designed to exhaustion, based on a very clear and well-defined concept, which would serve as a guideline, from the beginning, until the completion of the work. In this way, projects were prepared from a 360º perspective, which often involved the production of certain pieces, tailored to the client's concept, space and needs. Furthermore, we were present with 3 of the studio's projects in the final of an international competition, which represented considerable recognition of our work.

It was then that we considered it time to move forward. We carried out some research work, visited fairs with the aim of understanding whether we would have space and opportunity in the market, never wanting to be just another brand among many others. This was also the main starting point for the creation of Royal Stranger: we aimed to develop a differentiating brand.
