IMPORTS
According to Comtrade, imports from Mexico were worth USD 507 billion in 2021 (USD 383 billion in 2020). The five main groups of imported products were Machinery and Equipment (35.6%), Common Metals (9.7%), Mineral Fuels (8.5%), Vehicles and Other Transport Material (8.0 %) and Chemical Products (7.7%).
According to Comtrade, the top five suppliers to Mexico in 2021 were the US (43.7%), China (19.9%), South Korea (3.7%), Germany (3 .4%) and Japan (3.4%). These countries together represented 74.1% of the value of imports.
EXPORTS
According to Comtrade, exports from Mexico were worth USD 495 billion in 2021 (USD 417 billion in 2020). The five main groups of exported products were Machines and Devices (34.9%), Vehicles and Other Transport Material (24.1%), Mineral Fuels (5.6%), Common Metals (5.0 %) and Agricultural Products (5.0%).
According to Comtrade, Mexico's top five customer markets in 2021 were the US (78.1%), Canada (2.6%), China (1.8%), Taiwan (1.5 %) and Germany (1.5%). These countries together represented 85.5% of the value of exports.
TRADE BALANCE WITH PORTUGAL
According to Comtrade, Mexico recorded a deficit of USD 12 billion in 2021, which represents a decrease in the balance of USD 970 million compared to 2017 and USD 46 billion compared to 2020. Coverage rate of imports by exports stood at 97.6%, 11.2pp below that recorded in 2020.
