EIFFEL TOWER

One of the most recognizable structures in all the world , The Eiffel Tower is a wrought-iron lattice tower on the Champ de Mars in Paris , France . It is named after the engineer Gustave Eiffel , whose company designed and built the tower . It was constructed from 1887 to 1889 as the centerpiece of the 1889 World ' s Fair in Paris . The Eiffel Tower is the most visited monument with an entrance fee in the world : approximately 7 million people ascend the tower annually , with more than 300 million paid admissions since it opened in 1889 .
The tower is 1,083 ft tall , about the same height as an 81-storey building , and the tallest structure in Paris . Its base is square , measuring 410 ft on each side . Gustave Eiffel engraved on the tower the names of 72 French scientists , engineers and mathematicians in recognition of their contributions to the building of the tower . At the beginning of the 20th century , the engravings were painted over , but they were restored in 1986 – 87 by the Société Nouvelle d ' exploitation de la Tour Eiffel , a company operating the tower .

D ’ Artagnan is one of the key characters in Alexandre Dumas ’ novel The Three Musketeers . Published in 1844 , the book has been the basis of multiple film productions over the past one hundred years , including one in 1973 directed by Richard Lester , who directed the Beatles in A Hard Day ’ s Night and Help . The 1973 movie starred Oliver Reed , Michael York , Faye Dunaway , and Rachel Welch among others . The story is set in 1625-1628 when King Louis XIII ruled France , living in the chateau that became the Louvre Museum .
