There ’ s nothing quite like Christmas in Savannah . Plant Riverside District ’ s Savannah Christmas Market gives a beloved holiday pastime new energy . The original Salzburg Christmas Market tradition dates back to the 15th century and marked the beginning of the Advent season . Local vendors would gather in Cathedral Square in the heart of the city and offer goods , treats , handmade items and more to spread the festive atmosphere of the season into the homes of everyone . At the Savannah Christmas Market , visitors can experience elevated holiday energy with a tree lighting ceremony , holiday market vendors , live music and performances , children ' s activities , photos with Santa , and the Savannah Harbor Boat Parade of Lights .
