Enhance Regional Mobility

From small residential streets to major thoroughfares , 2016 was a busy year for road construction and maintenance projects .

The City of Arlington spent an estimated $ 34 million to build new streets , including the resident-driven Tri-Schools Street Improvement Project in the southwestern section of town . Arlington spent an additional $ 12.6 million to smooth out dips , cracks and potholes in existing streets , thanks to the voter-approved quarter-cent street maintenance sales tax .
The Texas Department of Transportation ( TxDOT ) was also hard at work on numerous multimillion dollar projects , such as the I-30 / SH 360 Interchange Project and Center Street Bridge over I-20 , designed to make our roadways safer and more efficient for motorists .
$ 330-Million State Highway 360 South Project Launches
A long-time dream of residents , business owners and elected officials moved a step closer to reality in October 2015 when TxDOT broke ground on the $ 330 million State Highway 360 South Project .
This 9.7-mile project , which stretches from Green Oaks Boulevard to U . S . 287 , is designed to ease congestion in and around Arlington , Grand Prairie and Mansfield . The new four-lane toll road also aims to enhance safety and generate economic development in the area .
This project is a partnership between TxDOT , the North Texas Tollway Authority and the North Central Texas Council of Governments — as well as Ellis , Johnson and Tarrant counties , and the cities of Arlington , Grand Prairie and Mansfield .
TxDOT will build and finance the first phase of the project , expected to be substantially complete by late 2017 . In addition to the $ 330 million being paid by TxDOT , the City of Arlington provided $ 1.1 million for intersection improvements on Webb Lynn Road , Sublett Road , Debbie Lane and New York Avenue . An additional $ 3.2 million in funding from the 2014 Bond Election helped realign the New York Avenue / Eden Road intersection .
$ 233 Million Project Aims to Improve I-30 / SH 360 Mobility
Center Street Rebuild Completed
Arlington drivers were able to enjoy a smoother ride along Center Street after the City finished reconstruction of a nearly 1-mile stretch of the busy road in January 2015 .
A section of the four-lane road from Arkansas Lane to Nottinghill Gate Street was rebuilt with concrete pavement , which eliminated potholes and dips in the road that had plagued drivers . The $ 4.5-million project , funded
Yet another multimillion dollar project to Enhance Regional Mobility kicked off in March 2016 with the groundbreaking of the I-30 / SH 360 Interchange Project .
The $ 233-million Interchange Project , designed to reduce traffic congestion on both high-volume highways and improve safety for the traveling public , is the largest statefunded project in Texas . The modern interchange will connect both directions of I-30 with both directions of SH 360 , allowing motorists to move seamlessly between the highways instead of exiting onto local streets with traffic lights and stop signs . The project , approved by the Texas Transportation Commission in 2015 , is set to be complete by 2020 .
