WakeMed Announces ‘ Whole-Person Campus ’ for Garner
WakeMed in April announced plans to build “ a whole-person health campus designed to address the medical and mental-health needs of our community .” The announcement followed the N . C . Department of Health and Human Services ’ approval of WakeMed ’ s certificate-of-need applications for a 45-bed acute-care hospital and a 150-bed mental-health hospital . The site for the proposed project is approximately 53 acres near the intersection of White Oak Road and Timber Drive East . It will be the centerpiece of a planned 220-acre mixed-use district focused on innovation and wellness . WakeMed said it was slated to break ground on the project in Fall 2024 .

In March , the Veterans Administration broke ground on a new outpatient clinic on N . C . 50 in Garner that will serve the primarycare and mental-healthservices needs of tens of thousands of veterans in southern Wake County and Johnston County annually . The clinic is expected to employ about 400 people .
