Voters Approve New Bond Program
In the November 2021 municipal election , Garner voters overwhelmingly demonstrated their support for a new $ 69 million bond program , approving four bond questions on Street and Sidewalk Bonds , Public Safety Services Facilities
Bonds , Parks and Recreational Bonds and Stormwater Bonds . To help service the debt on these general obligation bonds , the Town planned a 2-cent increase in the municipal property-tax rate .
Garner Recreation Center Opens
The Garner Recreation Center opened its doors to the public in August 2021 . The 40,000-square-foot facility features three high-school-size gymnasiums , an elevated walking track and art and multipurpose rooms . The campus includes a front lawn area with a walking trail . The project was partially funded with proceeds from the 2013 Garner Bond Program .
Proposed Mixed-Use Project Announced
In spring of 2022 , Wycliff Development announced that 225 acres at the White Oak Road-U . S . 70 intersection would be developed into a medical-anchored , mixed-use district called E-District . The developer intends to bring a wide variety of residential , retail and medical uses to the tract , which is adjacent to White Oak Shopping Center . The project will take years to reach full buildout , but it promises to bring an urban style of mixed-use development not seen before in Garner .
