Keep it Simple I Got it From My Papa Another huge trend for 2015 are “XXL dimensions” – wearing oversized “menswear inspired” clothing is a refreshing change from the prolific “bandage dress” craze we’ve seen in the past 10 years. This winter will be rife with pastels, animal prints, capes, knits and menswear-inspired shapes; but the strongest resurging trend is minimalism – that mid 90s Calvin Klein aesthetic is coming back in a big way. Gone are the days of heavy ornamentation and constricting silhouettes; it’s all about effortless simplicity, comfort, and most importantly, warmth. Don’t Call PETA Chelsea, owner of House of LOLO in the Pearl District said, “Textures, leather, faux fur, animal prints and drama” were in this winter. During Paris fashion week, design houses like Alexander McQueen, Fendi, Chloe, Versace, and Roberto Cavalli all sported modern twists on dramatic fur. Animal prints have been popping up everywhere recently, and we caught many young fashionistas sporting leopard and cheetah print coats on the street. Portland is one the most vintage-obsessed cities in the world, so Portlanders are used to wearing grandma’s old animal prints. It seems this trend will carry over to the next season. Pastel is the New “Black” When we visited Mojave in downtown Portland, they were all about the pastels, menswear inspired looks and plaid. Pastel has been slowly creeping back into fashion consciousness very recently, but it will take time to get used to it after years of deep, dark, somber colors. Luckily, this trend won’t be in full swing until spring 2015. 9
