Expectations for Students/Parents:
l Check Moodle (MS/HS) or Weebly (K/JS) for assigned work for all classes that would have been
missed on that day.
l Contact your teacher during school hours if you do not see an assignment posted or you have a
question.
l Respect all due dates.
l Expect to spend no more than your regular class time working on the assignment posted.

Fasting at School for Religious
Purposes
Objectives and Outcomes
l To raise awareness of the Sacred Heart administration, faculty, and students regarding our students
who fast throughout the school year for religious purposes
To provide a safe, supportive, and respectful environment for students who choose to fast while at
school
To support students in achieving a healthy balance between fasting and maintaining academic
performance and meeting academic requirements during the fasting period

In line with our school Goal 1, criteria
Policy and Procedures for Students who are Fasting During the School Day
l Written statement/permission from parents regarding student’s fasting PRIOR to the beginning of
the fasting period
o Name and homeroom of student
o How long the fasting period will be (start date to finish date)
o Details of the fast (what foods are allowed or not allowed, beverages, hours of fasting, etc)
o The information from parents will be submitted to the school nurse and shared with the
Administration, teachers, and assistants.
l How to manage when a student feels unwell due to fasting (dizzy, nauseous, headache, etc)
o Send to the nurse’s office for quiet rest in dark cool room for 1 period
o Nurse will contact parent if the student is too unwell to continue fasting for that day and/or
needs to go home
o If a Junior School student comes to the nurses’ office due to the effects of fasting, the school
Nurse will always contact a parent of the child.
o Nurse will contact admin and teachers regarding student status
