Suggested activities to reduce your knowledge gap in section 8
Basic Understanding : 0-9
Understand the types of fleet and power systems used by your company . How have they been designed or modified for your particular use ? Are they viewed as effective vehicles ? What point on their lifecycle are they ? Find out who owns the vehicles and the power supplies and how the future leases and contracts look ( e . g . how quickly could you expand or contract your fleet ?)
Moderate Understanding : 10-20
Visit a depot to understand how your vehicles are kept in safe and good running order . Notice the constraints on the depot and how these are balanced against the needs of planned and unplanned maintenance / cleaning and fueling . Look out for IRO Area depot visits .
Good Understanding : 21-33
Review the fleet specific information recorded and held in on company systems for safety , performance and presentation monitoring . Familiarise yourself with the principles of planning when fleet or power are the issue . Note the company ’ s options on fueling , outstabling , use of recovery vehicles etc .
