Suggested activities to reduce your knowledge gap in section 6
Basic Understanding : 0-15
Examine plans and discuss with a member of the planning team to see how the next timetable is being developed and what the objectives are , as well as the process to develop the next short term plan . Find out how the timetable could accommodate other users of the route ( possession closure / freight ). Examine possession plans and the cost of possessions – revenue losses and extra costs required to comply . If there is an infrastructure contractor involved what is a typical agreement in these circumstances ?
Moderate Understanding : 16-24
Review your existing staff planning and see if you can think of ways of making them more efficient or more family friendly . Look at your union agreements in force in your company and note their input into the resourcing provision . Ask your planning department for guidance on filling specific gaps in your understanding from the Essential Knowledge Elements .
Good Understanding : 25-36
Find out how the output of the planning department is measured , how capacity is measured and how utilisation is measured . Consider how planning might affect performance and performance recovery over the period of a timetable . Familiarise yourself with a special event plan of significance to your business . If you were to add in extra detail to the plan – what would you add ?
