Suggested activities to reduce your knowledge gap in section 3
Basic Understanding : 0-15
Ask to see the rostering system in action at your company . Get in touch with local union representatives to understand their position in resourcing and understand the consequences of disturbed working on staffing . Understand the signalling and infrastructure that impacts on training running by asking your control for their insight on this in your geography .
Moderate Understanding : 16-32
Pick a major station near you where it will be easy for you to learn key elements of day to day duties of various staff members , security and safety processes , station buildings management , passenger interface and communication and understand how key legislation affects the station working . Look out for CIRO Area events visiting freight companies . Try to attend one of these events even if it ’ s outside your normal area .
Good Understanding : 33-48
Review the driver competency standards and related documentation in force in your organisation . Talk to drivers and driver managers about route and traction learning and if you cannot get on a simulator look out for CIRO Area simulator events . Pick a major station near you and review the policies on passenger connections , facilities and arrangements that they have in place for passengers with disabilities .
