Outstanding Pastoral Care
Children thrive and feel valued in a safe, supportive atmosphere. Small class
sizes and an emphasis on kindness, respect and mutual encouragement
means pupils feel happy and confident inside and outside the classroom.
We maintain strong partnerships with home, with open and regular
communication. We understand that working together closely with families
is crucial in helping each and every child to flourish. For example, by
arranging home visits this important relationship can begin even before your
child’s first day at Pocklington School.
Children need to feel confident that there is always someone they can go to
for support. In addition to pastoral house teams, teachers and support staff,
there are many other experienced and committed professionals here to help.
Pupils can choose to turn to the school’s chaplain, our excellent medical
team, independent clinical psychologists and ‘independent listeners’.
Our house system fosters a sense of community and belonging. Regular
inter-house challenges encourage pupils to work together across year
groups and older students are encouraged to take on responsibilities and
leadership roles.
Pocklington School is a Christian Foundation that welcomes families and
pupils of all faiths and none. Christian values are central to the character and
life of our school and our school Chaplain leads regular worship for both day
and boarding students. We have strong links with our local parish church,
All Saints, and also with York Minster where we celebrated the Foundation’s
500th anniversary.
