Athletes impress across track and field Lower School update Revision strategies and exam technique tips were the name of the game at the start of the term as our students prepared themselves for the summer examinations. The key piece of advice was to show us your very best and I hope that every pupil achieved the results they were aiming for. Whilst it is important to celebrate successes, targets for improvement must also be set, particularly for our Second Year pupils who move up to the Middle School next year when they will start their GCSE studies in some subjects. I was delighted to welcome our new First Year pupils to Induction Day at the end of June; the day was a great success, filled with plenty of excitement and it was super to see so many new friendships being made. On the last day of term, 51 pupils and 8 members of staff will depart for Bamburgh, Northumberland for the adventure of the year: House Camp 2019! It promises to be a week of exploration, fun and we will be spending plenty of time on the beautiful beaches of Bamburgh under the backdrop of the impressive castle. There will be lots of stories to tell and memories made, I am sure. I wish everyone an enjoyable and relaxing Summer and I hope our new First Year pupils and their families enjoy meeting their Housemaster/ mistress when they visit over the holidays. Miss Samantha J. Cheadle Middle School – Fourth Year careers talks Fourth Year students benefitted from the careers insights of Pocklington School’s wider community in a series of talks aimed at stimulating ideas about their future careers and building momentum ahead of next year’s GCSE exams. Parents, OPs, friends of the School and members of the Careers and Business Network delivered ten-minute talks on their current jobs and career journey, providing insight into the world of work, and incentive to students as they work towards their goals. Careers and University Advisor Gillian Jones said the visitors’ talks were valuable opportunities for pupils to broaden their career horizons, learn about routes to the workplace and the skills that are valued, as well as help them make informed decisions about future subjects and courses.
