Academic
This term has presented pupils with a wide range of academic opportunities , both in and out of the classroom . Particular highlights have included : recent Elevate study skills workshops for Middle School and Sixth Form pupils ; enthusiastic celebrations for the European Day of Languages ; our expanded enrichment programme for academic scholars and exhibitioners ; a range of Maths Challenges and Olympiads for all ages ; our new MakerSpace collaboration between Design and Computer Science ; a recent ‘ Learn with the Lords ’ online session with Baroness Harris of Richmond , organised by the History and Politics department ; and a highly successful trade fair visit for our Young Enterprise teams . Congratulations to all on rising to the academic challenge !
The Charity Team have worked hard this term on a number of events . We have carefully chosen our four charities for this year for each house ; Gruggen - Martins House Hospice , Hutton - International Medical Corps , Wilber - Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and Dolman – RNLI and this will be the focus for our Lent Term fund raising .
The Middle and Sixth Form students donated old ( working ) Mobile Phones to a specific charity who deal with abuse in homes around the Yorkshire area and our First and Second Year pupils collected Christmas gifts for the local charity - People ' s Pantry in Pocklington - they will be running a special Christmas party as a result of these donations .
All years took part in the Christmas Jumper appeal on 13th December . The amount raised will be split between two charities this year ( The Island and Foundation UK - both based in York ).
Music
During the Michaelmas Term , the Music Department put on a variety of concerts and performances accommodating a vast range of music . We had an evening Soloists Concert and two smaller scale ‘ Rush Hour ’ concerts featuring piano and flute respectively . The Autumn concert was a great occasion featuring the choir singing selections from ‘ Les Mis ’ and the First Year with their traditional performance . At the time of writing , final preparations are underway by our 67-strong choir for the two carol services at All Saints ’ Church Pocklington .
