As the Michaelmas term and 2022 draw to a close , it is difficult to believe that our First Year pupils are only a matter of months into their Pocklington careers . The understandably nervous young pupils of September are now more confident , organised and prepared young Pocklingtonians and it has been a pleasure getting to know them . Their energy and thirst for learning knows no bounds and I have enjoyed watching them succeed across the many avenues of Pock School life including their academic studies , sport , music ( the Autumn Concert was fabulous ) and the many other co-curricular activities .
At the same time , our Second Years have been busy growing into fantastic role models , creative and determined thinkers and are now far more willing to question , rather than simply accept . There is never a dull moment in the Lower School , and I hope our pupils can now take the opportunity for a long , well-earned rest over the Christmas break .

Third Year students have been getting used to the new spaces and routines in Middle School - and making a thoroughly good job of it . In their science subjects they have started GCSE courses , and elsewhere will be no doubt thinking about their other GCSE options in the first half of Lent term .
The Fourth Year are well into their GCSE courses , and have moved away from ' full ' house forms into their smaller tutor groups . A significant number have committed to CCF , and it ' s a pleasure to see how many are attending the many co-curricular activities on offer . Those students taking the HPQ have had an especially busy time , ready for their presentations next term . All Fourth Year students have experienced a study skills session from Elevate Education - essential skills for the courses they are taking .
The Fifth Year have been working hard in preparation for their mock exams in January . They have also been proving themselves good role models to the younger year groups . Off-timetable sessions from Elevate Education and for PSHE have offered variety to their usual routines . Various concerts , and the Senior School Play have proved wonderful enhancements to the year . I wish them the best for the holidays , and hope they are ready to show their best when they return , ready to think seriously about their next steps beyond summer .

Sixth Form
Michaelmas term , as ever , has been a busy and exciting time for our Sixth Form students .
Our Upper Sixth students have made strong academic progress , whilst continuing to throw themselves into all that Pocklington has to offer . Most students have now completed their UCAS applications , or made good progress with applications for apprenticeships , employment , Art Foundation courses or overseas universities . Many students have already received offers !
Our Lower Sixth students have built upon their strong start , and they continue to receive lots of positive feedback from staff regarding their mindsets , approach to learning and involvement in the wider life of the School . They are enjoying the special atmosphere of being in the Sixth Form and they are rising to the challenges that higher level study and additional responsibility brings . In addition to their academic and enrichment courses , it has been great to see them making the most of the opportunities afforded through Community Action projects , the Symposium programme and a whole host of other co-curricular activities .
I hope our students enjoy spending time with family this Christmas and return refreshed and ready for 2023 !
