Hockey girls'
North of
delight at Junior England Rugby
Academy Centre call-up for Alex
selection
Three First Year pupils, Niamh Clements (U13),
Carys Haeney (U13) and Jess Groombridge
(U12) have been selected for the North
Yorkshire Junior Academy squad for hockey.
As well as their Pocklington School hockey
commitments, the girls all play for York City
Hockey Club. To secure selection for the Junior
Academy Centre (JAC) squad, they attended a
rigorous assessment day and were all delighted
to hear that they had been successful.
Pocklington School 1st XV rugby captain Alex
Todd represented the North of England as part
of its Under 18s team at the England Rugby
Divisional Festival last month, playing alongside
top players from across the country. Alex, who is
in the Upper Sixth, also plays for Pocklington
RUFC and Yorkshire Carnegie Academy. He is
the fifth generation of his family to play rugby
for both town and school.
GCSE and A level artwork
The 2019 GCSE and A level Art students have
been busy working on their coursework
portfolios. This is a small selection of the
excellent work proudly exhibited in the Art and
Design Centre. The students have explored the
work of a wide range of artists as part of their
studies. Many of the GCSE pupils have used
self-portraits as a starting point for their final
piece and combined this with natural forms to
create a finished piece of work. A wide variety
of media and techniques are clearly on show.
Jessica selected for
North Yorkshire
Netball Squad
Fourth Year pupil Jessica McDowell has been
selected for the U15 North Yorkshire Netball
Squad after competing against more than 100
other girls in two trials.
Jessica, who also plays at Centre or Wing
Attack, is a key member of Pocklington School’s
U15 A team. In addition, she represents York
City Netball Club, where she has played for a
number of teams from her age group upwards.
