Nice 2023 OPs run Snake Lane

In the middle of the night on the Sunday of February half term , 24 pupils and three staff set off to Manchester airport to fly out to Nice . They spent five days in the city , attending language lessons in the morning at Alpha-B Language School followed by excursions in the afternoon . Pupils stayed with host families and enjoyed evening meals and plenty of French . They enjoyed a walking tour of the old town on the first afternoon , a train trip to Antibes to visit the Picasso Museum on the second day and then an excellent visit to Mamac , the Museum of Contemporary Art , on the final day . The pupils , ranging from Fourth Year up to Upper Sixth Form , listened to and spoke a huge amount of French during the

trip , with lessons conducted solely in French . They successfully navigated their way around the city on foot or on the tram system , and enjoyed being part of the 150th Nice Carnival which was taking place whilst they were there . Some pupils were lucky enough to be taken to see the processions with their hosts and some were even given costumes to give them free entry !
Trip leader Catherine Davies said “ The trip was a great experience for us all , and I was very proud indeed of how our pupils coped with being pushed well and truly out of their comfort zones . Many thanks to Marion Peel and Lisa Hutchinson for all their help on the trip .”

John Dolman Society Members enjoy Commemoration Day

Pocklington ' s Snake Lane 10-mile road race on Sunday 26 February 2023 was a great success for the OP team with 22 OP and staff runners completing the challenge . The first male and female OP runners home were Ian Cooke ( 93-00 ) in 01:06:39 and Juliet May ( 05-12 ) in 01:07:53 respectively , both impressive times . However , it wasn ’ t all about finish times , with many OPs using the race for their own running goals , personal enjoyment , or as a reunion with old school friends ! Afterwards , OPs and their supporters gathered at The Feathers for the traditional post-run drinks and bacon butties hosted by the OP President , Joan Gough ( 75-77 ), and Honorary OP , Rob Peel ( Former Staff , 72-11 ).

Working in media was the focus for the latest PSF Careers & Business Network event held at Pocklington School on 2 February . Headmaster , Toby Seth , led the Q & A with two guest speakers from the BBC , Claire Frisby and OP Chris Attridge ( 89-98 ). As the Q & A came to a close , Clare invited audience members to participate in an interactive exercise to get everyone thinking about what it takes to work as part of a broadcast team and whether it might be a career possibility for them . Audience members were invited to put their own questions to Chris and Clare before being free to mingle and initiate their own conversations as part of the networking session . The event proved to be highly popular with Sixth Form pupils , current and former parents , Network members , staff , and OPs attending .
