Pocklington School Lent Term Review 2026 | Seite 7

Photography competition

We have enjoyed a superb set of entries for this year ' s Biology Department Photography Competition. The theme was ' Nature’, any living organisms except humans! We got a fantastic range from fungi, to orchids, sharks, whales, elephants, lions and of course some gorgeous pet dogs and guinea pigs. The Art department came and judged the competition on Thursday 12th March, and they were hugely impressed with the creative compositions and use of light. We also had an open evening in the Biology department where students could vote for their favourites in each division, while getting to meet the new member of the Biology department Rex, the leopard gecko! All winners will be announced in the first assemblies after the Easter holidays.

CCF

The highlight of the term for the Pocklington CCF Contingent was the field day on the 9th March. The Army training on Driffield Training Area( including paintball and navigation) and RAF training at RAF Leeming( including flight simulation and blue / bronze wing training) was thoroughly enjoyed by all and enabled us to fulfil a good portion of our syllabus. At the time of writing this report, our Senior Army NCOs are making their final preparations for Ex Merlin Manoeuvre, an inter CCF / ACF competition taking place on Catterick Training Area from 20th-22nd March. We wish them luck! We now look forward to our Biennial Inspection on Monday 20th April and our Summer term field day which will include an overnight exercise.
An exciting and important moment came on Saturday 14th March, when Major Samantha Hughes, Lt Anna Sargeant and Pt Off Sarah Kneeshaw, along with Cadet CSgts Molly S and Molly B D were fortunate enough to attend the International Women ' s Day Charity Dinner hosted by the Merchant Taylors Company in York. The event this year celebrated the achievements of women in the Armed Forces. The guest speaker was Major Natalie Taylor, an Army doctor and accomplished extreme athlete, famous for co-leading the first all-female team to ski coast to coast across Antarctica.
