We wish you a joyful Christmas and a Happy New Year, and look forward to welcoming everyone back next term.

This term I have enjoyed leading weekly sculpting sessions for pupils, alongside a couple of Sunday afternoon events for parents. There is something healthy about playing with clay. First, it is very mindful, as you immerse yourself into a creative task. Regardless of the quality of the final piece, it can feel worthwhile just getting your hands dirty and playing for an hour or two. When we move on to sculpting heads, there is a deeper opportunity to reflect. Putting on and taking off pieces of clay to find that perfect form and feature, captures a person’ s own self-development. Looking deeper at who we have become, and who we want to be, is in our own hands.
Happy Christmas. Rev Bill
Launch of New Careers Handbook
OPs Inspire Sixth Form Students
Pocklington School recently welcomed back two Old Pocklingtonians to share their career journeys with Sixth Form students through the Pock Connects and Symposium programmes.
In October, Ed Dare( 11 – 18), founder of sales & business development agency Drumup, addressed a Sixth Form assembly, highlighting lessons learned from his entrepreneurial journey so far and the power of networking in creating opportunities. Afterwards, in a Q & A with Business and Enterprise students, Ed shared insights into starting a business and navigating the challenges and rewards of entrepreneurship.
In November, Henry Laverack( 03 – 10) addressed students at the Sixth Form Symposium. As head of Laverack’ s butchery and bakery, Henry discussed resilience, adaptability, and the human side of business. The session sparked lively discussion with
students asking questions on topics such as Brexit, pricing strategies, and maintaining quality.
Both talks encouraged students to think about their future careers. Two standout examples Lower Sixth student Jack, and Upper Sixth student Hugh. They both used the Pock Connects network to arrange Teams calls with OPs working in the finance and IT sectors, taking proactive steps to explore their own career aspirations.
To find out more about Pock Connects, contact the OP office at opoffice @ pocklingtonschool. com, or join the Pock Connects group on LinkedIn: https:// www. linkedin. com / groups / 1878725
We were excited to share the new Careers Handbook this term, which brings together all the careers advice, guidance, and opportunities available to students.
Inside, you’ ll find a clear overview of our Careers Programme, details of the guidance available in school( including one-to-one interviews), and our partnership with Morrisby, the online platform that helps students explore their interests and plan their next steps.
We encourage parents / guardians and students to take a look and chat through the options.
