If you enjoy practical work and
want a job outdoors, then working
on a building site could be for you.
You will need a good level of
fitness, knowledge of building
methods and materials and
a good head for heights.
CASE STUDY
James, aged 17, joined PM Training,
working on Homeworks vans where he
enjoyed landscaping and passing his
qualifications in maths and English.
After nine months James was placed
as an apprentice with construction firm
Seddon, working towards an NVQ level 2 in
construction operations. He said: “I did a BTEC
in construction when I was in my last year at
high school with PM Training. I thought about
what I wanted to do and what I was good at.
James said: “I’ve been taking materials to
the guys on the site, making sure they have
everything they need. I’ve been checking for
trip hazards and making sure everyone has
their proper health and safety equipment.”
