That moment was frustrating, but instead of getting upset, I focused on the task. I used the correct technique, worked with my team and got the job done. After that, my team started treating me as an equal. They might not have said it outright, but I know they had underestimated me. That day, I earned their respect.

I love working in construction. I haven’ t done much maintenance work yet, but being on-site, starting projects from scratch and seeing everything come together is amazing. I enjoy analysing drawings, installing pipes and visualising the final product before it even takes shape. It gives me a rush every time.
Being a woman in a male-dominated space also has its advantages. I like to think outside the box and bring new ideas to the table. Since starting my apprenticeship in 2022, I’ ve seen a slow but first, but your dedication and abilities will eventually earn their steady change. There’ s growing awareness that skill and hard respect. Instead of being discouraged by stereotypes, use them work matter more than gender. Some companies are becoming as motivation to excel. more inclusive, offering training programmes and better workplace conditions for women.
At first, I felt like my colleagues didn’ t take me seriously. But once I proved I could do the job, they started respecting my input. That said, there’ s still work to be done. Not everyone is open-minded, and some still believe women aren’ t strong enough for certain tasks. But change is happening, and I’ m proud to be part of it. PA
