36 BUSINESS AND TRAINING Atlas Plastics celebrates 50 years By Eamonn Ryan Atlas Plastics’ origins date back to 1969 when the business was started in the garage of Les Lategan in Klerksdorp. His two sons, Rene and Pierre, still run the business today. To celebrate its 50th anniversary Plumbing Africa paid the company a visit to unpack the secrets of its longevity. A highlight of Atlas Plastics’ recent history was the acquisition in 2013 of their first Reinhardt machine – the F1 of the roto moulding industry. These machines are renowned for their trouble-free operation lasting generations. This was a major leap in technology, says general manager Susan Brand, from previous old electricity-based machines.
