Co-ordinating the Ecosystem : – Part 3 of the IOPSA / PIRB five-year strategy series

By Rory Macnamara
Pillar one consists of two focuses : Projects parts 1 & 2 .
“ The second part of the co-ordination project is direct training interventions .”
We reproduce a diagram for ease of reference showing each of the pillars .
It is worthy of mention that the whole strategy is not a one-sided affair , but involves anyone in plumbing from career choice through to qualification , own business , manufacturers , suppliers , importers , standards bodies , enforcers , local , provincial , and national government , SETAs , training bodies ( private and public ), insurers and most importantly , the consumer .
Focus one is Training Co-ordination . Create a single point of co-ordination which is , a resource , a repository , a management system . This will enhance the referencing of training programmes from around the world and South Africa being crucial . It is not the delivery of training . It is essential to make this very clear as providers of training are a critical part of the stakeholder mix : 1 . By creating a single point of contact / information source and co-ordination which will include , applications , curriculum , career paths and ways to support industry , a . With a focus on new learning material b . With a focus on fleshing out career paths
2 .
Creating a funding mechanism for training .
3 .
Actively creating platforms for training partnerships ( for
Q & A ) and industry engagements .
There are two parts to this section , namely : The repository will house such items as curricula , training material , guides and such that are sourced as reference material . A system to electronically manage functions such as , apprenticeship , career , and certification management , CPD and mentor matching .
The second part of the co-ordination project is direct training interventions .
Creation of training interventions to quality assure and
decrease inefficiencies of training . There are six elements :
1 .
Training forum
2 .
Create different levels of approval / certification for
training providers
3 .
Nationwide coverage of training providers
4 .
Career path development of new designations
5 .
Restore faith and quality in the trade test
6 .
Creation of trust for training
