We reproduced the detail drawings which support the wet services shown in the main drawing .
These inspection manholes are monitored for leaks as part of the Dolomite Risk Management Plan .
Plumbing Africa chatted with Gustav Beukes , the plumbing contracts manager , who confirmed the biggest challenge was the entire dolomite specification and simply put , one must make very sure there are no leaks at all because of the nature of dolomite . In the event of a leak the water would track down the sleeve to the manhole . Even the manholes had to be waterproofed ensuring there is no seepage into the dolomite area .
Water piping is reticulated from the plantroom via a booster pump set through a service trench to Blocks A , B C , D and E . The material of choice was HDPE for piping greater than 50mm . All sizes below 50mm was copper Class O .
The above ground wastewater reticulation was installed in shafts using PVC , and PVC connected to HDPE dual containment for below ground .
The use of HDPE in a dual containment function was due to the fact that such a process is not possible with PVC , and HDPE in this instance was more economical .
On the energy saving front , heat pumps and heat accumulators for hot water generation were installed . A 2 000 litre heat accumulator and a 20kW Alliance heat pump and resistive back up as well as a
