8 ASSOCIATIONS
Marius ’ praise for the Southern Cape region members is gracious and telling in that we can all learn from this . “ I always advocated being colleagues in the same business . We are not in opposition – we should respect and support one another . Our ‘ opposition ’ out there is the consumer who does not want to comply with standards and tries to force us into non-compliant practices . What I saw in the region was a change from opposition to colleagues , and more a ‘ family ’ of plumbers .”
Marius acknowledges the support of all the regional chairs in IOPSA .
Marius is moving on for no other reason than to spend more time with family and on himself . He will still be involved in his plumbing business , Stefmar Plumbing , remains a compliance auditor , so he will still be in plumbing and guiding plumbers .
His Air Force family have approached him to chair the SA Air Force Association ( SAAFA ), Outeniqua branch in 2022 . As most of his air
“ Marius acknowledges the support of all the regional chairs in IOPSA .” force colleagues retired to the region and given his youthfulness at 60 , he views it as an honour to serve them in the region . The purpose of the SAAFA is to serve retired members of the Force .
With what he has learnt , and the guidance received in the plumbing industry , he is ready for this part of his life .
Marius also has an aqua blasting business specialising in the glass bead blasting of metal components for the motor and motorcycle enthusiasts . The business is directly related to his hobbies together with meeting interesting people . Each person , each bike has an interesting story . These clients are between 60 and 85 years old and so much learning comes from them .
Marius ’ next aspiration is to finish the car restoration of a 1972 BMW 202tii . “ I started 21 years ago , so I would like to start up the project again . I also started model engineering five years ago and I belong to the Western Cape Live Steamers and am involved with the building of a live steam train model of a South African locomotive – a 16DA .”
Well , Marius , if the first 60 years went fast , we cannot imagine how fast the next 60 will go with all of this on your plate , but from all of us at Plumbing Africa , we wish you peace , happiness , success and good health . PA
