The afternoon proceeded with around 25 plumbers coming through and spending time interacting with the various brands, including some practical demonstrations of pipe preparation and fusion welding, experiencing the feel of the power tools, the inner-workings of water meters and pipe bonding and tape applications, to name a few. Visitors were also invited to share in some boerewors rolls and beers, and with the comfortable atmosphere there was also sharing of their experiences, challenges, various product benefits (and downfalls), and how the industry has developed over the years. Stories were also shared of the types of work the plumber sometimes has to tackle in their day-to-day lives, which involve some quite intense situations. “We believe it is important to have these sorts of events now and again because it allows the plumber to experience the product in a relaxed space where they can test them out, ask questions and get an August 2019 Volume 25 I Number 6 Plumbers learning about pipe bonding and tape applications. understanding of their benefits, and on the other hand, it’s also important for the retailers to get the opportunity to also understand the product ranges that we offer and their application,” says Malcolm Harris, managing director of Harscan.
