EXHIBITIONS AND EVENTS 15 All the children were thrilled to receive the sponsored bottles. Plumbing Africa and Water, Sewage and Effluent — part of the Interact Media Defined (IMD) stable — took part in an initiative at the Klopperpark Primary School in Germiston, a no-fee paying school, on Friday, 9 March 2018 to enhance water-saving awareness. IMD arranged the donation of plastic water bottles sponsored by the Institute of Plumbing South Africa (IOPSA) to the 1 450 schoolchildren, teachers, and other staff members. The ground staff were given technical advice on maintenance by the Dutton Plastics Team on how to identify and repair leaks. In the very near future, the school will also be having a special valve unit installed, sponsored by Aquatrip, which automatically cuts off the water if it detects a leak — the biggest culprit when it comes to excessive water bills, especially when savings are a priority across the school. The school principal, Ceilan Naidoo, also gave his personal thanks to the sponsors and commented, “We are really appreciative of the efforts of your teams, and more companies should get on board with these types of initiatives to create awareness www.plumbingafrica.co.za The IMD and IOPSA team leaders gave a short two- session talk to the two very well-behaved groups of children in the school on the importance of water — the idea being to save water, take responsibility for their bottles of water, do not waste, and if they spot a leak and are in doubt … call a plumber! More companies should get on board with these types of initiatives to create awareness around issues like the water crisis. around issues like the water crisis that could very well be in Gauteng, too.” There was huge excitement when the children received their bottles and the team left knowing that the seed on water saving had been sown and will hopefully spread beyond Klopperpark Primary School’s well-kept grounds.
