3 ISSUE № 16, SEPT 2015 Nikoli Lalla ..A NEW BEGINNING Nikoli Lalla attended New Beginnings Educational Centre, a special education school where he also learned sports including swimming and equestrian. His ability in the pool however is what captured the attention of the coach at the Diamond Vale pool, Monique Telfer. Based on his performance at his first swim meet his coach kept note of his times and he has since been selected for training with the National Team. Upon being selected to represent at The World Games /Special Olympics which took place in Greece in July 2011 he went on to win 2 Gold Medals. His winning form continued at the recent games in Los Angeles, California where he captured 1 Gold and 1 Bronze. The major challenge for Nikoli is getting to and from his additional training which takes place at night at Marlins pool. He has also indicated an interest in Open Water Swimming and Triathalon. Despite any challenges, Nikoli is a technical youth who is fascinated by engines and IT repairs. In combination with his practical skills he continues to grow in self-confidence and self -esteem.
